Hiro Hamada, as portrayed in the "Big Hero 6" manga series (titled "Baymax" in Japan), is an adaptation of the film franchise protagonist of the same name.
Hiro Hamada is a shy, reclusive, socially inept and insensitive, yet highly intelligent 14-year-old boy of Asian descent who attends the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology with his brother, Tadashi Hamada. And has a aunt named Cass and they owns a coffee shop.
In a stark contrast to his film franchise counterpart, Hiro is a very shy and introverted individual, caring significantly more about machines than real people and depending very heavily on his brother whom he admires and cares about more than anyone else.
Despite the many differences between the the two portrayals, the one thing that stays constant is his extreme intelligence and devotion to dedicating it to what he loves.
- It is shown that Hiro was bullied for his high intelligence from a very young age, something that caused his brother to have to protect him. This may explain Hiro's antisocial and shy behavior around others despite his astounding assuredness in his own capabilities.
- It is shown that he is smarter than Tadashi, something admitted by Tadashi himself.
