Silver Samurai (Keniuchio Harada) was a former member of the Big Hero Six. He is a Japanese mutant with the power to charge almost anything, most notably his katana, with mutant energy (described as a tachyon field) which enables it to slice through any known substance excluding adamantium.

He also sports a suit of traditional samurai armor made of a silver metal, hence his professional name.

BackgroundEdit

Keniuchio Harada is the mutant, illegitimate son of the former Japanese crimelord Shingen Harada, head of the Clan Yashida. He was once the bodyguard for the international terrorist the Viper and was subsequently an occasional mercenary, but he became the head of Clan Yashida after his half-sister Mariko Yashida's death. He attempted to pay off his clan's debts to the Yakuza and restore its honor.

Though he was once one of Wolverine's greatest enemies, he had apparently impressed Wolverine so greatly that Wolverine entrusted him with the care of his adopted daughter, Amiko Kobayashi. The Samurai has helped Wolverine destroy the monster known as "Doombringer", and later helped Logan rescue Amiko and Yukio from their kidnappers.

Powers and AbilitiesEdit

Silver Samurai has the ability to generate a tachyon field, with which he can surround anything. He commonly uses his power on his sword, enabling it to cut through nearly anything, except adamantium.

As a self-styled samurai, he is a master of Kenjutsu (katana) and a martial arts master specializing in edged weapons, hand to hand combat, and tactics. He usually wears a suit of lightweight steel alloy body armor, modeled after traditional samurai armor, but made of modern protective materials. He carries a katana, shuriken, and other weaponry. Keniuchio has extensive knowledge of the operations of criminal organizations due to his shady past, which he now uses in the service of his government to combat such organizations. He is an expert in the history and customs of the samurai class (Bushido).

HistoryEdit

When the Japanese government was recruiting superhuman individuals to form the Big Hero Six, the Silver Samurai was recruited as the team's field leader. He personally attemped to convince Hiro Takachiho to join the group, but the boy expressed disinterest in joining. It was not until the battle with Everwraith that Hiro and Sunfire would join the team, thereby completing the team's first roster. During his services in the team, Silver Samurai would help protect Japan from threats such as X the Unknowable, the Crimson Cowl, and the Masters of Evil.

He would not stay on the team for long however: ultimately, his inability to lead Clan Yashida allowed the Mongolian crimelord Haan Kaishek to take control, and he allied with Wolverine to defeat the Kaishek’s. However, the disgrace of losing leadership was too great for Harada, and he returned to his mercenary ways.

Silver Samurai eventually became the bodyguard of the Japanese prime minister but was killed while defending his family home from a ninja attack.

TriviaEdit

  • Silver Samurai, along with Sunfire, are the only characters who are removed from the film incarnation of the team, due to the company 20th Century Fox owning the film rights to the X-Men and related characters.
    • Ironically, the founding members of the film's team are Wasabi and Fred, the characters who replaced Sunfire and Silver Samurai in the comics.
